The Cure OCT- Audition pg1 by The-Alchemists-Muse The Cure OCT- Audition pg1 by The-Alchemists-Muse
Next Page: [link]

Once upon a time there was a Muse addicted to trying out for OC tournaments...
Yup, it's another one. I kinda got frustrated with just doing the spectator entries at :iconthecolosseum: so when I found :iconthecureoct:, I decided to try out for it. Unfortunately, I didn't find out about it until auditions had already started, so I'm kinda running around to get this done in time O_o;

Anyway, it apparently takes place at an medical research place over run by monsters and creepies of various types.

Asylum will just be having so much fun in that situation :D

There's not a whole lot going on in this page, but it's just the set up throw-away page. And this time I have a better idea of a plot for poor Sy...

Art-wise, I decided to go to gray-scale, since it takes less time and honestly, I think it may look better, especially for the atmosphere I hope to create further on if I get into the contest.
I refuse to categorize this under 'digital art', because the line-work was done traditionally and took 3 hours, while the shading was done in 1.

BTW, the look of the setting is a slight (probably very inaccurate) reference to a certain video game. Try to guess which ;)

Asylum is (c) :iconthe-alchemists-muse:

Oh! Okay. I know of that one, though I've never played. I like some of the music. ^_^()

I agree! Although I haven't actually seen the music working with the game . . . and I'm unsure if I want to! It sounds so scary and gory, and I can do scary, and ~some~ egore, but some things (The Grudge, The Ring . . . not Saw--I refuse to see ~any~ of those) leave scars. I still check under my bed, and I'm almost eighteen! I'm such a fraidy cat. . . .

But the music? Awesome.

heh, been there done that with the horror movies scaring me stuff... Well sort.

Despite the fact that I more or less write horror comics... I can't tolerate horror movies. sometimes not even horror books! I still run up the stairs if i'm the last one up at night and I had to turn all the lights off...

XD Me neither. I never have time (or else I plan continuously, get stuck, give up and never touch the game again. Bad habit)

Silent Hill btw. It's creepy psychological horror love.

Hey, the door in the first pannel has the Ultimate Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything on it! Neat! ^^! And Sy is back - yays! (I love Sy - he's such an interesting character - but I also feel sorry for him. He has so many troubles...)

Yeah, I wanted to use as little color as possible in order to increase its effect when I do use it. The red in Sy's hair can be represented by dark grey, so I decided to do so (especially since I'd already chosen to color his eyes)

I agree, the lighting and the whole Black&White effect makes for an all the more suspenseful comic. Especially the intro, which looks awesome. I can't wait to see all the oponents he'll be facing. 8D SO much fun, indeed! Futhermore, I am very happy to see more of Sy and his creepy adventures again!

I'm not going to guess the video game because the only thriller RPG game I've played is the Resident Evil series. XD So it makes for rather limited guesswork. though I'm hoping to get F.E.A.R. beause I love FPS games. :3

^_^ Thanks! I'm having a ton of fun with this one, since the over-all creepy atmosphere to the tournament means I can stretch my creative horror-and-suspense muscles.

Everyone likes guessing either Resident Evil or Silent Hill (I've been under the impression RE is more sci-fi then horror, but apparently I'm wrong). Silent Hill is, for the record, the answer ;) Check it out, it's a super creepy awesome game. It's been a HUGE inspiration to what I'm doing with Asylum's main story.

I'm looking forward to it! 8D It's great you've found another tournament club thingy, especially with the creepy horror themes that are just right up your alley. ^^

Yeah, I was given the impression it was more Sci-fi, too. 0_0 It's like Dino Crisis - a rather old game for the first Playstaton console with similar themes as RE, except instead of zombies it's dinosaurs. XD Yup, definately Sci-fi. I've watched the movie, and I've read of Silent Hill the game in Gameinformer. Looks wicked. 8D And since it's the main inspiration for Asylum's main story, I'm even more excited! Which came first, the movie or the game?

Heh,it's kinda surreal to hear someone say that 'creepy horror themes are right up my alley'. I've never been able to handle horror movies or tv shows very well, so much of my exposure to such things is second hand (i.e. I read about it online). So... The idea that I'm beginning to develop an association to creepy-horror stuff just seems almost funny to me. It's sorta like "Muse's work is horror related? Who knew!?"

The game(s) came first, and in my opinion, they seem to be superior to the movie. There's a little more depth to the psychological aspects in the games, especially in relating to what the monsters stand for (Pyramid Head had no real place being in the movie- he's a physical representation of a feeling of intense Guilt. Why would the girl have 'intense guilt and a belief she deserves punishment' when she's all about revenge!? He was just there because he's popular...).
When it comes to inspiration for Black Light from Silent Hill, it's mostly for the monsters and environments. Asylum himself draws from many different sources, of which Silent Hill is a lesser one.

Really? Well, you do tend to put an undertone of humor in most of your artwork, and that's great, too. ^^ But I was mainly referring to your Danny Phantom: Asylum comic, which always gave off the impression of creepy-horror to me. ^^; And angst. Lots of lovable Angst!Danny. :3 Or perhaps it's more of a melancholic-angst horror. Either way is enjoyable for me. ^^

Pyramid Head IS popular. XD Even I know of him, and I haven't played the game. Too bad the director didn't know much about his purpose. It sounds like a great game though.

You can never trust Hollywood to make a good movie out of a game, novel, cartoon or comic book. They don't always get it right (mostly because they think the hardcore fans will wanna see it no matter how terrible it is in comparison). But when they do, it turns into something like The Dark Knight. XD

I like to think of it as angsty psychological horror... Or at least that's my ultimate goal at the moment. Either way, I'm not bothered by it at all, just sorta surprised to find this becoming the case. I have a very hard time judging whether what I write/draw is scary or funny, and so people's reactions will sneak up on me...

He's rather iconic for horror games. Even funnier about this is that he only appears in ONE of the games (of which there are currently four that are really well known). But he's leaves a crazy impression for... various reasons... That I think made him as popular as he is.
Plus, he's one of the most distinct looking.

Or IronMan. IronMan was Fantastic. Heh, I just bought my copy of it today (yesI'moneofthosegeekswhobuystheirfavmoviesthedayitcomesout)

Shall we just say that you are a natural at this? :D Hehe.

Wow, now that's popularity. ^^ Only appears in one game and already Mr. PH leaves a memorable impression. Despite the fact that he seemed glaringly out of place in the movie, he still looked awesome doing it at least. XD And yes, the pyramid for a head is quite distinct and memorable. ^^

YES! Like IronMan, too. 8D Great</em. non-sequal of this summer, and I've become quite a fan of Robert Dowey Jr. :3 He did a fantastic job. I WISH I could buy both TDK and IR, but I don't have a job. D: And I don't like to ask stuff from my parents. But damn it all if that DVD isn't an exception. XD

Works for me!

I lucked out and had enough money saved up to buy it (partially because I went out of my way to find out when it was coming out and how much it'd be ahead of time. YesIAmObsessedThankYou. Yay IronMan!!)
RDJ Is gonna be in the next two IronMan movies too. And they're keeping the same director. If you wanna know more - [link]

wow, i'd have to say silent hill, all the way. but then again, i get a sort of 'resident evil' type suspense from all the black and white and the fact that he's alone...and the fact that he's in a med lab facility. But yeah, I could see this being a lot like the silent hill movie thing; there is light all over, then when the darkness comes, the monsters come out to play. ^_^

It was Silent Hill. The fourth game "The Room" has an apartment building with roughly the same layout as the one Asylum's walking through now.
Yup, I loooove Silent Hill's monster and enviroment designs. So creepy <3

He's not actually at the Med. lab yet. The prologue is about how he gets there...

Mmm...either Silent Hill or Resident Evil, I dunno... I like Sy's hairz...and you're much better at drawing people walking than way back when I first found you.

If only I could pull off walking people...*sigh* (is trying to alter her style so it looks better)

Good start, I think. But I think anything that's drawn right looks awesome. (has a bazillion pics to scan and post covering her desk) ^////^;

Oh, yes. I'm trying to get my style to seem less Danny Phantom, cartoonish, and trying to make it look like manga form. I've been sketching some pics off of DevART like my buddy Badger and some of your stuff lately, and some FMA, DNAngel, stuff like that, and it really helps.

It's in the building directly across the street. Apartment 43 on the building Asylum's walking along faces it. And at this moment, Harry is staring at the hole in his bathroom wall.

Not that that really affects anything happening over here (seriously, it doesn't.)
